Smuggled gold seized at Bhubaneswar airport again

Bhubaneswar: Customs officials today seized 301.600 grams of gold from a Chennai-based man at the Biju Patnaik International Airport upon his arrival from Malaysia, official sources said.

This is the 14th case of gold seizure, adding up to 5.5 kg, by the Bhubaneswar Customs officials in the last two months.

Acting on a tip-off, Customs sleuths intercepted a passenger who arrived from Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia flight on the intervening night of May 3 and 4.

“Search of his personal baggage resulted into recovery of four cylindrical bars with hole, made of gold, each piece concealed inside the wheels of his trolley bag,” he said.

The official said the collective weight of recovered gold is valued at Rs 9.64 lakh.
