Administration stalls soil mining for airport construction

Bareilly: The construction work of Bareilly airport might get further delayed as the district administration has raised objection to a private firm carrying out soil mining for leveling the site where the construction of the proposed Nath Nagari civil enclave is underway. The company has been appointed by Airport Authority of India (AAI).
On Wednesday, district mining officer Shivi Singh denied permission to the firm’s contractor claiming that he did not have the required permission for carrying out mining in the area. She said that neither the contractor had taken permission from the administration and nor did he obtain a legal consent from the farmers whose fields he wanted to quarry.
After completing land acquisition for the proposed airport, the district administration had asked AAI to carry out the construction work. The airport authority later awarded the work to a private company.
Later in the day, the concerned contractor met the mining officer and produced a letter of consent in which a lone farmer had given consent on behalf of 15 peasants. Since the letter’s authenticity could not be verified, Shivi Singh asked him to follow the due procedure to obtain permission for soil mining.
