Boost for domestic air connectivity

Tiruchi: Domestic air connectivity to the city, which has been gradually improving in recent months, got a further boost on Friday as private carrier IndiGo launched its operations in the Chennai - Tiruchi - Chennai sector. A water salute was given to the first IndiGo flight after it landed at the Tiruchi airport in the morning from Chennai.

The airline will operate four services daily in both directions which would enhance flight movements in the Chennai - Tiruchi - Chennai sector what with the Jet Airways and Alliance Air already operating flights every day in this sector as well. IndiGo will also operate ATR-type aircraft from Chennai to Tiruchi and back.

Airline sources said the first flight from Chennai landed at Tiruchi with 36 passengers. It left for Chennai with 41 passengers on board. As per schedule, the Tiruchi -bound flight from Chennai will arrive at 6.15 a.m.; 11.40 a.m.; 4 p.m. and 7.50 p.m.

The flights to Chennai from Tiruchi will leave at 7.20 a.m.; 12.40 p.m.; 4.45 p.m.and 8.10 p.m. With the entry of IndiGo airline, the total number of flights to Chennai from Tiruchi would now rise to eight (Jet Airways - three and Alliance Air - one). Airport sources said IndiGo would be operating flights to Bengaluru and Kochi from June 28 onwards.
