Flight curbs in Visakhapatnam to derail tourism sector

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag airport has become one of the most happening in the country due to an increase in the number of air travellers and tourists to the port city. Currently, 70 flights operate in and out of Vizag, including three international flights to and from Dubai, Bangkok and Kaula Lumpur.
Flight restrictions from November 1, as proposed by Navy authorities, would adversely hit commercial flights, with airlines having to either reschedule or cancel flights based on their convenience. Vizag airport provides connectivity to various parts of the country, not only north coastal Andhra Pradesh but also to people in south Odisha and parts of Chhattisgarh.

At the meeting on May 2 in INS Dega, which is the air station of the Eastern Naval Command, representatives of various airlines and officials of Airport Authority of India were present. "A conscious decision was taken by airlines and military members," minutes of the meeting said.
