Flights cancelled, taxi fares touch sky

Mohali: Private taxi operators cashed in on the poor visibility that grounded flights at Chandigarh International Airport. The stranded travellers alleged that the taxi operators were charging between Rs 6,000 and Rs 8,000 for Indira Gandhi International or Palam Airport, Delhi.
Feeling fleeced, the passengers slammed the airline operators for not co-operating and instead asking them to get the tickets refunded and manage on their own. Except Air India, all other flights asked passengers to get the tickets refunded
Sunny Aggarwal from Ludhiana was seen arguing with a taxi operator on being overcharged. He said, “The airline operators are not taking responsibility to transport us to Delhi. At least they can arrange for transport at nominal rates. Taking advantage of the situation, taxi operators are charging exorbitant fares of Rs 8,000 for a Toyota Innova to Delhi airport. There is no one to check them. Normally, Rs 4,500 is charged for Toyota Innova to the Capital.”
Other passengers alleged that for smaller cars, taxi operators were asking for Rs 6,000. For Toyota Etios the fare is Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,700 on other days.
