Man arrested at Mumbai airport with two Dubai visas

Mumbai: A Worli man, Amit Gamare (35), was nabbed at Sahar airport while trying to fly to Dubai. He was holding two visas-work and tourist. The incident took place on Friday when Gamare tried to clear immigration check using a tourist visa. On scrutiny, immigration officials found that his passport was in the "emigration check required (ECR)" category.
In case of ECR, a person has to get a certificate from the Protector of Emigrants (PoE). "Instead of getting a PoE certificate-a time-consuming process, people working in the Gulf fly on a tourist visa," said an officer. "We found an appointment letter but no PoE certificate," said the police. Gamare has been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a genuine as forged document or electronic record). -V Narayan
