Navi Mumbai runway development to take off soon

Navi Mumbai: Simultaneous runway development along with ongoing Ulwe hill operation will take off soon for developing the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
Cidco joint MD, Prajakta Lavangre Verma told TOI, "The runway on the south side can be developed as 260 hectares of land has been levelled at 5.5 meter. The remaining 2.5 meters levelling for 8 meters as under the airport development plan will be done by the strategic partner. The operator will do the next level land filling of 2.5 meter for developing the runways, taxiways, terminal building for the airport complex. The villages along the runway will be vacated soon as most have shfted."
The airport will be at almost double the height of the 4.5m flood line. The first phase of Rs 5,514 crore of the Rs 16,000 crore airport will be commissioned (scheduled December 2019 end) with the south runway of 3.7 km and partial development of the H shaped terminal. The north runway will be developed later as per traffic growth and requirement.
The concession agreement signed by Cidco, the nodal airport development authority and Mumbai international airport (MIAL) requires transferring of the 1160 hectares of core area of the airport, but it also envisages for simultaneous operations and therefore the runway development can start.
