Three airlines clear ‘test’ of punctuality

Three domestic airlines — Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara — recorded best on-time performance (OTP) at the Bengaluru airport in May. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) airport-wise OTP of scheduled domestic airlines, complying with route dispersal guidelines which was computed for four Metro airports — Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai — showed that the three carriers recorded maximum punctuality from the Bengaluru airport.
Air India’s (domestic) airport0wise OTP complying with route dispersal guidelines showed that the state-owned carrier recorded an OTP of 84.1 % which is the highest for airline among the four metro airports.
Similarly, Jet Airways and its low-cost subsidy JetLite also recorded its highest OTP percentage 86.9 % from Bengaluru. Vistara recorded 90.3 %. The OTP at the four airports for different airlines last month was 80.9 % for Indigo, 80% for SpiceJet, 76.7 for Vistara, 74.6 for Jet Airways and JetLite,74.5 for Go Air and 69.8 for Air India. The for delay analysed by the regulator found that majority of delays have been attributed to ‘reactionary‘ (64%) followed by ATC (13%) and Airport (9%).
As per DGCA statistics, the domestic air passengers traffic grew by over 16 % to 11.86 million in May.
Passengers carried by domestic airlines during Jan-May 2018 were 571.58 lakh as against 465.87 lakh during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering a growth of 22.69%.
