Tunnel route proposed to enter Bengaluru Airport

Bengaluru: To ease commuting to Kempegowda International Airport for the nearly 65 million passengers who are expected when the second terminal is commissioned, Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has submitted a proposal to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority of India to have a tunnel route to the airport.

The 300m tunnel route along with a 2.4km subway will particularly benefit those coming from Eastern Bengaluru. The tunnel will run in the mid portion beneath the first and second runways.According to the proposal, the tunnel will be linked with the upcoming Eastern Connectivity Road from Hoskote. This road will link the proposed Maintenance, Repair and Cargo facility.

BMRCL has two entry points at present. The trumpet interchange which was launched on airport road in 2008 when the airport commenced operations and an alternative road through Hennur Main Road and Thannisandra Main Road which was launched this March.
