Thoothukudi: A new flight service between Thoothukudi and Bengaluru was launched on Sunday.
The daily flight, run by Spicejet, would depart at 2.15 p.m. from Bengaluru and reach Thoothukudi at 3.30 p.m. It would leave at 4 p.m. from the port town and reach Bengaluru at 5.15 p.m.
Forty-four passengers were aboard the inaugural flight to Thoothukudi, while another 66 took the flight back to Bengaluru.
Three more flight services, all run by Indigo, would be launched between Thoothukudi and Chennai on July 26. Earlier, there were only two flight services from the port city per day — in the morning and afternoon — both to Chennai.
Airport Director N. Subramaniam said a new terminal building spanning 1,000 sq.m. with conveyor belt facility for passenger luggage would be ready soon.
