Kannur Airport to have special office in Delhi

Kannur: A special office for Kannur International Airport has been set up in Delhi. A. K. Vijayakumar, retired executive director of corporate affairs in Gas Authority of India, was appointed as the special officer. The functions of the special office will be centred at the Kerala House in Delhi.
The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation had directed that a special officer should be appointed in Delhi to handle the Delhi affairs of Kannur Airport. This direction came during Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s meeting with the union minister 2 weeks ago in connection with the requests to speed up the permission for the airport.
The special office will handle the permissions of the airport and the foreign airline services. Meanwhile, the state government gave a letter to the ministry of civil aviation requesting to exclude Kannur airport from the UDAN-RCS Scheme (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik - Regional Connectivity Scheme).
