Mumbai airport flight delays: Indigo, Vistara, Jet Airways to accommodate passengers affected by bridge collapse

Mumbai airport flight delays: India's financial hub Mumbai has been hit by a massive chukka jam today because of heavy rains which began from early hours of Tuesday. This has left a massive hurdle for every citizen travelling to work or any other place. As if heavy showers were not enough for Mumbai’s problem, now a bridge has collapsed at Andheri station, which has left western railways operation suspended. Because of this, airlines like Jet Airways, Indigo and Vistara are operating few hours late as their main runaway is located near Andheri.

The collapsed Gokhale Bridge connects Andheri East to West and it has affected the overhead wires as well. The accident took place early in the morning at around 7.30 am.

Mumbai Police tweeted saying, “Part of Gokhale Bridge, connecting Andheri East to West has collapsed affecting the overhead wires too.Trains on the western line are affected.BMC,Fire Brigade as well as RPF Staff & Officers are deputed on spot for support.Traffic above & below the bridge is stopped for now.”
The police has even advised commuters might face traffic congestion on roads leading to the Airport. Plan your journey accordingly so that you are in time to catch your flight.

Due to this major airlines have also taken to their Twitter accounts to warn passengers about impediments in their travel plans if they are heading towards Mumbai airport. They have even announced they will accommodate passengers who have missed flights and are delayed because of the bridge.

Vistara says, “#TravelUpdate Due to flyover collapse (Andheri Gokhale bridge)  there is heavy traffic congestion on the road to Mumbai Airport impacting customers. We will accommodate customers who miss their flight, on seat availability basis in the next flight with no additional fee or fare.”

Indigo also said, “#6ETravelAdvisory: IndiGo announces free re-accommodation to all passengers who have missed reporting on time due to the congestion arising out of the collapsing of #AndheriGokhaleBridge (Mumbai). The seats will be provided based on availability on the next flight.”

Jet Airways said, “#9Wupdate: Due to heavy rains in #Mumbai, we’ve issued a waiver on penalties for date/flight change, refund, no-show (including fare difference if any), on all confirmed tickets for flights operating to and from Mumbai for 3rd July, 2018.”
