Wait for three new aerobridges at Lohegaon airport gets longer

Pune:  Passengers at the airport here will have to wait longer for a hassle-free walk to and from aircraft to the terminal building.
Even as the airport officials had earlier claimed that three new aerobridges will be ready for operations by the end of July, the ministry of civil aviation has said procurement of the bridges has not yet even started.
The airport has two aerobridges for general passengers. “The civil work for three more is almost over. The file for procuring the three aerobridges has been cleared from Delhi. Procurement is expected to start soon,” an official at the ministry of civil aviation told TOI.
An official at the Pune airport said the Airports Authorities of India’s (AAI) headquarters in Delhi had floated tenders for the aerobridges. “We have not initiated the process. Though we cannot say the exact date when the aerobridges will be ready, the civil work for the facilities is almost complete. Once the aerobridges reach, they will be fixed at the designated points. We are sure that the three aerobridges will be ready by the end of 2018,” the official said.
