Will ask Centre to include Kalaburagi under UDAN scheme, says Kharge

Kalaburagi: Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge has said that he would recommend to the Union government to include Kalaburagi airport under the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) Scheme, the regional connectivity scheme of the Centre aimed at making air travel affordable. After inspecting the ongoing works of the Greenfield Airport near Srinivas Saradagi village on the outskirts of the city on Saturday, Mr. Kharge told presspersons that he would ask the Ministry of Civil Aviation to implement the regional connectivity scheme to Kalaburagi airport.

Meanwhile, the State government will write to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) seeking the permission for ‘trial landing’ in Kalaburagi airport, Mr. Kharge added. Officials said that 80 per cent of works, which were taken up under Package I and Package II, have been completed. Of the total allocation of ₹90.66 crore in Package I, around ₹74.26 crore has been spent for constructing the 3.27-km runway, the 9.7-km peripheral road, and the compound wall.

In Package II, works, including terminal building, Air Traffic Control building, electrical sub-stations building, crash fire rescue building, underground tank, signage and direction boards, were taken up a cost of ₹7.28 crore against the allocation of ₹31.12 crore.
