Gujarat's only maintenance unit overhauled PM's plane

Ahmedabad: The state's only maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Ahmedabad airport has handled servicing and repairing of around 30 aircraft in two years. These include aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF) and other defence forces.
The MRO facility at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPAI) is managed by Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Limited (GujSAIL) and has capacity to handle three aircraft at a time, including two 72-80 seaters and one small aircraft.
The MRO facility was inaugurated in February 2014 and among the first few aircraft to come here was an Embraer jet which is also used by the Prime Minister when he has to travel with a few officials for a short distance.
Captain Ajay Chauhan, director of civil aviation, Gujarat said, "The MRO facility has handled around 27 aircraft in the last two years, all of which were larger than above 14-seaters. Around 90% of the aircraft handled were for the defence forces while the rest belonged to private operators. The MRO has also got certifications from Bombardier and Gulfstream."
