Noida International Airport set for June 15 take-off: What travellers should expect from Delhi-NCR’s newest aviation hub

Good news for Delhi-NCR people! In a major update, Noida International Airport (NIA) or Jewar Airport is all set to take off this 15 June. It is being called as a game changer in India’s aviation sector. It is expected the launch of the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar will ease the pressure on the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi. It was a long-awaited milestone for the National Capital Region (NCR) which will transform regional connectivity. The new airport, a modern greenfield aviation hub, is expected to improve passenger movement, cargo handling, and add to travel convenience for millions living across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and western Uttar Pradesh.

Noida International Airport took to X and made the announcement. It wrote,

"A major milestone in the journey of Noida International Airport.

We are pleased to announce that #NIAirport will commence commercial flight operations from 15th June 2026, opening a new gateway for passengers, airlines and cargo operators in the National Capital Region and North India. @IndiGo6E will operate the first flight, followed shortly by @AkasaAir and @AirIndiaX. We look forward to welcoming our first passengers soon!"

The launch of Noida airport will offer an alternative departure and arrival point for travellers in the NCR. Built in Jewar, the airport is strategically placed to serve not just Delhi but also fast-growing urban clusters in Uttar Pradesh. For travellers in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida, it could dramatically cut travel time to the airport. In its early phase, the airport will manage some 12 million passengers every year. There are plans to scale up capacity to 70 million passengers in the future.

As per updates, IndiGo will operate the first and inaugural flight on June 15. Other carriers Akasa Air and Air India Express are also expected to begin operations soon. Initially, travellers should expect mostly domestic routes, with international operations likely to follow in. However, detailed schedules, destinations, and ticket bookings are yet to be fully announced.
