Reliance Retail plans freight services

New Delhi: As a way of strengthening its newly rolled out food and farm retail outlets, Reliance Retail is now looking to launch its cargo or freighter services to fetch in fresh fruits and vegetables from various sourcing destinations across the country early next year.
Reliance group plans to buy the 50 cargo aircraft through sale-lease buyback process for the purpose.Currently, there are only eight dedicated freighters carrying cargo within and in and out of the country. The full-fledged launch of the cargo services is expected towards the year-end or early next year by when its retail foray reaches critical mass.
Plans include using smaller air strips in various states and setting up a dedicated airport for cargo in Punjab to bring fresh vegetable and farm product to retail outlets across the country.
