New integrated passenger terminal at Kolkata to improve passenger comfort


Mumbai: The new state-of-the-art integrated passenger terminal at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata is to be inaugurated tomorrow i.e. Sunday, 20th January 2013.
The new airport terminal will now have a covered area of 2.33 lakh sq. meters. The integrated passenger terminal now will have capacity to handle almost three times the annual traffic compared to earlier. On annualized basis it will now be able to handle 2 crore passengers compared to earlier capacity being 74.6 lakh passengers per annum.
On an hourly basis it will now be able to handle 7452 passengers per hour as compared to  2850 passengers earlier. What’s more the travelers will get further more comfort. In the International airport at peak hour the area per passenger is now 29 square meters as compared to the earlier 15.34 sq.mtr. Similarly in the domestic terminal area per passenger at peak hours will increase to 22 sq.mtr compared to earlier 14.38 sq.mtr.      
The airport that earlier could not handle aircraft larger than a Boeing 747 will now be able to handle can now handle an Airbus 380.
