Despite new international terminal, air passengers to get old facilities in Chennai

Chennai: When the Airports Authority of India (AAI) finally manages to open the new international terminal, it would just be a facade. Details accessed by The Times of India show that the 65,000sqm terminal would only be an entrance for passengers who would then be taken through a passage to the old terminal where security check and boarding happen. This, passengers say, is unfair, as AAI would start collecting user development fund without all the benefits of a new facility.
A plan document on the opening of the international terminal by the second week of May says passengers who enter the new international terminal will have to take a passage connecting the first floor of the old terminal. That means after immigration clearance, passengers will be moved to the old terminal where customs clearance, security check and boarding will take place.
