To beat tourist blues, aviation policy to focus on connectivity

Jaipur: Alarmed at the drop in number of foreign tourists in Rajasthan, the state government is drafting an aviation policy to brace up its unkempt infrastructure for airways transportation. Measures in the proposed policy also include setting up of an aircraft manufacturing zone.

To boost arrival of commercial planes on its 17 ailing airstrips, the state government will revamp them to accommodate more number of flights. According to officials, the government is also finding ways to attract investors under public private partnership (PPP) for developing commercially viable airports at these places.
"The policy is in its initial stage but government is serious about it. We are studying similar policies of other states to include the best practices. Our focus is to make air traffic viable in the state so that a greater number of tourists can visit here. If there is a need to seek services from a consultancy we will look into that possibility too," said an official of general administration department.
