Soon, state to thrill tourists with seaplane service

Panaji: The marine plane service, expected to attract more tourists to the state, is likely to be launched commercially in the forthcoming tourism season, after it receives all clearances and approvals. Mandovi River has already been approved as the location for the marine plane to operate.
Director general of civil aviation (DGCA) has conducted a detailed audit of the plane and submitted a list of compliances. Since operations are suspended during the monsoon, the compliances will be met and a report submitted to DGCA post the rainy season. The marine plane service is also awaiting clearance from the captain of ports.
Both the service and construction of floating jetties and ramps for it received opposition from traditional fishermen. Members of the Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott alleged that their livelihoods would be hit as with the start of the service several areas would be demarcated as no fishing zones or no movement zones. The government went ahead conducted a trial run of the nine seater Cessna marine plane in Mandovi river last year.
