Air India to discontinue air service between Aizawl and Imphal

Air India- the only airline that operates between Imphal and Aizawl will stop its service from 30th Oct 2016. This discontinue of service between the states came as sad news for the people of the region, at a time when air connectivity is very crucial between the neighbouring states. It is likely to have a severe impact and cause troubles for the people because roadway connection between the two states is extremely inadequate and time consuming due to the difficult terrain.

Severe problems would arise in terms with people to people contact as there is a large population of Mizo ethinicity living in Manipur whose relatives also resides in Mizoram.  There are many students studying at The Regional Institute of Medical Science, The Sainik School Imphal and Central Agricultural University which are all located in Manipur.  Also, a sizeable population of workforce hailing from Manipur who are posted in Mizoram working at various institutions such as Central government filed offices of various ministers, bank employees of National as well as private banks and faculty as well as students of the Mizoram University, Veterinary College under Central agriculture University (Imphal ) and Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing located in Mizoram who need to avail flight operations.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has sent a written appeal to Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapathi Raju asking the latter intervention so that Air India flight operations may continue its service between the two Northeast states.
