Airlines announce special fares for domestic and international fliers

New Delhi: Three domestic carriers have announced special fares for domestic and international fliers for travel between November and April next year, covering even the peak season for air travel when fares usually go sky high, a move that will bring cheers among air travelers. Other players are also expected to join the low fare competition, following the move by Jet Airways, SpiceJet and AirAsia India. AirAsia India was the first airline to reduce its ticket prices when it yesterday announced discounted fares across its flights for a period between October and April next year.
The Bengaluru-based budget carrier is offering fares as low as Rs 999 for travel period till April 27, 2017 with a four days tickets sale window, which has been made available to the customers from yesterday as part of its year-end sale offer. Taking a cue from its rival, Gurgaon-headquartered no-frills carrier SpiceJet also came out with a matching offer today, announcing starting airfares at Rs 888 for its domestic flights and Rs 3,699 for international travel on a first-come- first-serve basis.
The four-day sale will remain open till midnight of October 7. The travel period will be between November 8 to April 13, 2017, the airline said. Considered as the peak season for air travel in India, the October-December period generally witnesses an increase in fares by 20-30 per cent each year. No sooner than the SpiceJet’s offer hit the market, full service carrier Jet Airways also said it had lowered its base fares for economy class travel on its domestic flights by a significant amount.
