Governmnet set to beef up bid to develop airstrips

Jaipur: After the announcement of regional connectivity scheme by the Centre, Rajasthan government has beefed up its efforts to develop airstrips in the areas that were so far not feasible.
State government will pitch hard for the areas that holds potential for tourism but lacks air infrastructure. Under the regional connectivity scheme, also known as UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Centre will grant a subsidy of Rs 100 crore for developing air strips.Apart from that airlines will be offered a slew of sops at smaller airports such as waiver of landing and parking charges. The government will provide subsidies to regional airlines to offer half the seats on a discounted rate.
"Government will take full advantage of the scheme. On November there will be meeting and we will showcase the potential of small places to airlines. If they agreed then airstrips will be developed there" said an official.
