Mopa farmers petition PM against airport

Benaulim: The Mopa International Airport Displaced Farmers’ Association has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to go ahead with the proposed second international airport at Mopa in North Goa.

The association, backed by the anti-Mopa airport movement led by Fr. Ermito Rebello, has expressed concerns about the proposed construction on the Mopa plateau on a public-private-partnership mode, in a petition to Mr. Modi.

The association said the project, which was proposed by the erstwhile Congress State government, had faced criticism from the then Opposition political parties and others. “We are, therefore, at a loss to understand why the BJP government is showing such iron determination to go ahead with the erstwhile Congress government’s destructive policy,” said Sandip Kambli, secretary of the organisation.
