Online petition seeks naming airport after Bajirao Peshwa

An online petition suggesting that the state government name the proposed Pune airport at Purandar after Bajirao Peshwa, one of the greatest generals of the Maratha empire, has created a lot of buzz and has garnered many supporters.
The petition, "Name The New Pune International Airport Shrimant Bajirao Peshwe International Airport", on 'change.org' already has 3,362 people supporting it.
Started by Pune resident Anuradha Sahasrabudhe on October 7, the petition's objective is to reach the 5,000 mark.
A letter along with the petition says that though people have the greatest respect for Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, it was Bajirao Peshwa who realized Chhatrapati Shivaji's dream of an independent, free 'Rashtra' by spreading the Maratha kingdom, and it all started from Pune. It is only appropriate that anyone flying out of India does so from an airport named after the person responsible for this pride. Bajirao is internationally acclaimed for his military prowess and won all the 41 battles that he fought in his short life, it says.
