Two Sena heavyweights scurry to land airport site

Pune: The tussle between two heavyweight Shiv Sena politicians who want the proposed Pune international airport in their respective areas has turned intense.
A couple of days ago, collector Saurabh Rao had said that the option of Khed as the site for the airport was still open and that landowners there were willing to provide their plots, unlike in Purandar. Shiv Sena MLA from Purandar, Vijay Shivtare, told TOI on Thursday that the landowners in his constituency were more than willing too, and that consent for around 1,000 acres of land was with him.
"The landowners at Purandar support the project. A consent over 1000 acres of land is with us already. The airport project came to Purandar after there was a long opposition from landowners at Khed, which went on for more than a decade," Shivtare, who is also the minister of state for water resources, water conservation and parliamentary affairs, said.
