Delhi: IGI's T2 trial run starts in three weeks

Next time you decide to catch a domestic flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport, you may be in for a surprise. In another three weeks, the spanking new Terminal 2 (T2) will be thrown open for flight operations on a trial basis.
The decision comes in the wake of a survey report, which was submitted by a joint team of intelligence agencies, CISF, Delhi Police and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). If everything goes as planned, the trial run will start from the second week of December while full-fledged operations are expected to begin from January 1 onwards.
Sources confirmed that T2, which had undergone extensive renovations, would be on a par with existing terminals of the airport in terms of facilities, comfort, security and infrastructure. With 600 CISF personnel, a multi-layer security ring will be formed to protect the terminal.
"Quick Response Teams (QRTs), dog squad, bomb detection and disposal teams besides armed commandos will be deployed at the terminal. CCTV cameras, door-frame metal detectors, face recognition cameras and other gadgets will be used to detect suspicious movements, if any," said a CISF officer.
