Immigration officials from Coimbatore Airport detained two people, one for using a fake passport and the other for being involved in a cheating case, on Monday. Sunny Joseph, 45, a native of Malappuram in Kerala state, was travelling to Coimbatore from Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight. He had reached Coimbatore Airport at 3am on Monday.
When immigration officials took a closer look at his passport, they found that some correction had been made by him. His date of birth printed on his passport was 1967 but he had altered it to 1971. He was detained and handed over to Peelamedu police who registered a case under section 12 (1) (b) (furnishing false information with a view to obtaining passport or travel document) of the Passport Act. He was arrested by the police.
