Direct flights from Srinagar to Int’l destinations may be considered in future: GoI

Minister of Civil Aviation Government of India P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju said that direct flights from Srinagar to International destinations at Srinagar Airport depend on commercial viability and as the routes will develop, the direct operations may be considered.

In response to a quarry raised by social activist MM Shujah under Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Minister of Civil Aviation Government of India in his response has said that commencement of any operations of airline depends upon the commercial viability of airlines. “At present the market potential for direct flight from Srinagar to International destinations is not sufficient to cater direct operations. Presently Indian carriers-Air India and Jet Airways are following hub and spoke model. As the routes will develop, in future depending on commercial viability the direct operations may be considered,” the Minister according to CNS has said.
