Nagpur skies witness rumble of jets, helicopters as over 9 lakh passengers hop in 2016

Nagpur: The skies in the Second Capital City of Nagpur reverberated with rumblings of Jet engines and choppy sound of helicopters round the year. The feat turned the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport of Nagpur as one of the busiest airports in 2016.

A total of 9,31,523 passengers hopped in the flights of 426 private helicopters and 625 private aeroplanes that landed at the airport during the year. Mostly, these flights were used by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other political bigwigs during their tours to neighbouring districts and states. Several industrialists, politicians also visited orange city during last one year to attend several social, political and industrial functions.

This information was provided by the MIHAN India Limited on a RTI query posed by activist Abhay Kolarkar.

The MIHAN India Limited (MIL) generated revenue worth of Rs 49,36,745 from these aircraft and helicopters. MIL further informed that around 8150 aircraft and helicopters made scheduled and non-scheduled landings and take offs from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 at Nagpur airport.
The MIL Generated revenue of Rs 11,67,67,045 from landing, Rs 8,42,359 from parking of aircraft, Rs 19,30,4,990 from PSF and Rs 1,83,83,035 from advertising on the airport.
