Customs official Sanjeev Kumar arrested for stealing 90 kg gold from Indira Gandhi International Airport

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a customs official who was posted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi for alleged pilferage of gold. Reports say that Sanjeev Kumar, a superintendent of customs department, allegedly stole around 90 kgs of gold from the customs store room at the IGI airport 14 years ago.
According to the CBI, Kumar was posted at the IGI Airport between 2002 and 2003 as custodian of the store room where the seized gold items were kept. It has been alleged that he replaced the gold items with duplicate metal. It is alleged that Kumar stole 90 kg gold and replaced it with duplicate metal.
Kumar is posted with Sonepat customs office as a superintendent at present. He has now been remanded to seven days’ police custody after the CBI told the court that he was required for the further interrogation.
