In an incident which could have turned into a fatal tragedy, an Air India flight AI 849 from Delhi to Pune overshot the runway on Friday evening at the time of landing. All 152 passengers and crew members are said to be safe.
Though the country's aviation safety regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation into the case, the the last recorded data of the aircraft reveal that approach speed was over 400 km/hour which is much higher than the accepted standard. " The investigation will shed light on it" said a source.
The airline and airport authorities immediately carried out an emergency evacuation ."All 152 passengers and crew members are said to be safe. No injury has been reported" an airline spokesperson said. The runway which had to be closed soon after the incident was reopened after the plane was moved away.
