AirAsia India expands Kolkata services

AirAsia India has celebrated the beginning of August with the launch of five new domestic routes. Four are from Kolkata (CCU). Sector lengths range from 380 kilometres on the Kolkata to Bhubaneswar route to 1,355 kilometres for the Jaipur (JAI) route. IndiGo already serves all five of these sectors with multiple daily flights. On the Delhi (DEL) route AirAsia India becomes the eighth carrier to connect the two major cities. According to AirAsia its Indian subsidiary operated with a load factor of 90% in 2017 Q2 and carried just over one million passengers, up 89% compared with the same period in 2016. Capacity was up only 83% resulting in a three percentage point improvement in load factor. The average sector length fell 21% to 989 kilometres. A total of 11 180-seat A320s are now operated by the LCC, with three having been added this summer, all of which were formerly operated by Frontier Airlines in the US according to Planespotters.net. In total AirAsia India now operates 25 domestic routes in India.
