Air India to start direct flight to Bangkok from Chandigarh on December 11

The first direct flight to Bangkok from Chandigarh will take off on December 11, the Air India announced on Friday. There has been a long delay in the starting of Chandigarh-Bangkok flight apparently due to delivery of new aircraft to the Air India. On Friday, Air India’s local station manager R K Negi told Chandigarh Newsline the first flight would land at Chandigarh Airport on December 11 at 9.20 am and the same flight would depart for Bangkok at 2 pm and would arrive in Bangkok at 8.15 pm. “The inaugural fare for a round trip is around Rs 22,000,” said Negi. He added that the flight would operate thrice a week.
Earlier in May this year, a flight of Air India from Chandigarh to Bangkok had appeared in the winter schedule of the Chandigarh International Airport. The Air India management had announced the direct flight of Air India to Bangkok from Chandigarh a long time ago. But the flight failed to take off.
The Air India counsel had already told the High Court that the airlines was making serious efforts to start the flight sooner. Recently, the flight operations between Kullu-Chandigarh-Kullu were started by Air India’s regional arm, Alliance Air. However, the airline has not received a good response so far.
The new terminal of the airport was inaugurated in 2015. The first international flight, however, started a year later and currently two international flights operate from the airport. From the first week of this month, the new watch hours were implemented due to the runway upgradation work at the airport. The airport is currently available for commercial airlines up to 4 pm only while the airport remains closed on Sundays.
