DGCA: Patna not to have any new flights till Mar 25

Patna: New flights will not be allowed to operate from the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna at least till March 25 next year, when the airport is scheduled to open for 24x7 flight operations.
With Indigo and GoAir introducing one and two flights respectively, the number of flights to and from the airport increased from 33 to 36 under the winter schedule, which came into effect from October 30,
Sources said certain airlines proposed to add few more flights under their revised winter schedule, taking the total from 36 to 44. However, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) denied timeslots to them.
Citing infrastructural constraints, including short runway and restricted operation timings for now, the DGCA has said it may consider requests for introduction of new flights after the 24x7 flight operations commence from Patna, said an airport official.
Flights operate to and from Patna from 7am to 9.30pm, but the timings change to 8am to 9pm under the winter schedule. Heavy fog at times does not allow flight operations till 12 noon.
