Kochi Airport plans to waive landing charges by 2012

Kochi: Cochin International Airport Ltd. (CIAL) is aiming to become the first airport without landing charges by 2012, through commercial utilisation of land and other non-aeronautical avenues, its Managing Director, V.J. Kurian, said here on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the two-day `India Duty Free Workshop,' he said the airport had secured the fourth place in number of international passengers in the country.
Nearly 150 delegates from all over the world, including duty free operators, product suppliers, manufacturers, airlines, airport operators and consultants, are taking part in the workshop, the first of its kind in the country, being organised by Alpha Kreol, an international duty-free retail operator, in association with the airport company.
Mr. Kurian said the CIAL was the first public-private partnership venture to build, own and operate an airport outside the ambit of the Airports Authority of India.
