AAI estimates put profits at Rs 548 crore

New Delhi:Even before the revamp of Delhi and Mumbai airports has taken off the balance sheet of the Airports Authority of India has started showing gains. NDTV has learnt that the new estimates presented by the body in its board meeting peg profits for the year 2006-07 at Rs 548 crore as opposed to Rs 318 crore estimated earlier.
An increase of Rs 500 crore will also take place on account of airport leasing revenue and profits will also shoot because expenses like pay and allowances, repairs and maintenance will come down. But critics of the privatisation process refuse to buy these numbers. They say mere change of hands cannot lead to an increase in profitability or revenues.
