Airport selloff opens new doors to services cos

Bangalore: In an otherwise moribund sector, the privatisation of existing airports and emergence of greenfield facilities has thrown open fresh business opportunities for domestic and international players.
In fact, new alliances are being structured with even state-owned companies demonstrating uncharacteristic zeal to develop critical financial and commercial muscle to grab a larger share of the pie. Analysts say the Indian aviation opportunity has now gained enough size to attract the biggest and most aggressive players in the market.
The new Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) has, for instance, shortlisted six players for cargo handling, including Air India-Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS), Airports Authority of India (AAI) - Mysore Sales International, Swissport-Cargo Service Centre, Jet Air-Dnata, Menzies Aviation-Bobbo Group and Reliance-Worldwide Flight Services.
