DGCA rejects AI instructor's training

New Delhi: The director general of civil aviation (DGCA) has rejected the expensive training of an Air India commander in London as instructor on the Boeing 777-200, because he failed to "meet the flying experience requirements stipulated in Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR)". The commander, Capt Amitabh Singh, was among the four pilots sent for training abroad for these new jets and had more flying hours than the other three.
It's now apparent that the training of the other three will be rejected on similar grounds. The loss to the exchequer due to mandatory rules being flouted by the AI management is pegged at Rs 1 crore, say sources.
