Mumbai:Foreign pilots are coming to India in hordes to fly Indian aircraft. That's because there's a huge shortage of home-grown pilots. But current rules say there has to be at least one Indian pilot inside the cockpit on an Indian plane. Domestic airline players are now asking the government to relax the rules.
"I see no reason why the government should not allow this. Moreover, all pilots flying the Indian sky have to pass the Indian air law exams," said Vijay Mallya, Kingfisher Airlines.
NDTV has learnt that the government is actively considering the request, but it is going to be a tough call partly because of national security issues.
Another reason is the language problems that many foreign pilots face, which has resulted in a number of near-accidents in the recent past.
