Jet Airways to have 1,400 pilots by 2008

Mumbai: Jet Airways is planning to more than double its existing strength of 550 pilots by 2008. Confirming the development, Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, chief executive officer, Jet Airways said, "To cater to our expanding fleet and operations, we are aggressively looking at having 1400 pilots by the year 2008."
Industry observers feel that such an aggressive hiring target might also be in anticipation of many Air Sahara pilots not joining Jet Airways post the Jet-Sahara merger. Recently, Kingfisher Airlines had confirmed that it received several job applications from Air Sahara pilots. According to sources, currently Jet Airways has a pilots shortage of around 10%. However, Jet has no plans to poach pilots from other airlines in India.
