Planes will not have to hover over Delhi airport

New Delhi: Hovering over the city aimlessly for up to 45 minutes before getting clearance to land at Delhi airport is something that air travellers have come to dread. Their agony, however, is all set to end with the AAI beginning trial runs by April 1 for using both the runways at IGI simultaneously.
The main runway will be used for international flights and domestic arrivals while the secondary one will be used for domestic departures. As a result, the hourly flight handling capacity will increase from the current 30 (now only one runway can be used at a time) to 45 and the waiting time before landing reduce drastically.
