Foundation for Air Deccan hangar laid at Chennai airport

Chennai: The foundation for the first Air Deccan hangar here, providing basic and medium-level maintenance checks, was laid at the Chennai airport Friday. The 60,000-sq ft hangar will be built at a cost of $5 million.
It is expected to be ready for operation in about 8-12 months.At present, the ATR checks and maintenance are carried out at a leased hangar in Hosur, in Tamil Nadu and major checks and maintenance on the Airbus are carried out at overseas facilities.
Air Deccan is also planning a 'Software Shuttle Service' linking Chennai with Bangalore and Hyderabad on an hourly basis.
