Singapore SATS Bids For Qantas Unit,Bangalore Deal Close

Singapore: Singapore Airport Terminal Services Ltd. is bidding for the catering arm of Qantas Airways Ltd. , a deal that would increase its revenue by more than half, a person familiar with the matter said.
SATS, 83% owned by Singapore Airlines Ltd. (S55.SG), is also close to securing one of two contracts to build and operate a cargo terminal at Bangalore's new international airport, which is due to open in 2008.
"SATS is part of the list of potential bidders for Qantas Catering, which is up for sale," the person with knowledge of the matter said.
Qantas, an Australian airline, said it is reviewing the catering business as part of a group-wide review of its operations.
In a second potentially positive development for SATS, its consortium with Air India is close to securing one of two contracts to build and operate a cargo terminal at Bangalore's new international airport.
The consortium has been ranked first among the top three bids, according to the Bangalore International Airport Ltd. web site.
