Symbiosis, Canada firm to set up aviation academy in India

Mumbai: The necessity of an advanced aviation school in India along with an acute shortage of pilots, has prompted Symbiosis Deemed University to enter into a collaboration with Cubex India, to start India's first aviation academy. The 14-month programme will entail Winnipeg Flying School, Canada, and Symbiosis to offer courses in several areas including commercial pilot training, ground management, maintenance operations, flight management courses and other allied subjects, partly at the Symbiosis campus in Pune and partly at Winnipeg.
Speaking to Express TravelWorld, Vidya Yerwadekar, joint director, Symbiosis Deemed University, said, "We plan to begin these courses by July this year. While 6 month academic and the ground training will be imparted here, the pilot training curriculum will be conducted in Canada, as the infrastructure is already in place there.
The students can appear for their DGCA exams to obtain a commercial pilot licence in India after completing the course.
