Govt’s plan for six-lane highway because of Mopa Airport: Radharao

Margao: The spokesman of the Dabolim Airport Action Committee (DAAC), Mr Radharao Gracias has said that the reported decision of the government, after the aerial survey conducted by the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary, to acquire a 90 metres wide strip of land from Mopa to Polem, parallel to the Konkan Railway line, to build a six-lane highway is an indication that it still has plans to go ahead with the Mopa airport.
The DAAC has conveyed an emergency meeting to consider the new developments. He also said that it would hold meetings in all villages along the railway track.
In a pressnote, Mr Gracias said this highway plan was suggested by the Bhatkal committee, which was the same one which had recommended the Mopa Airport, so as to improve the North’s connectivity with the South.
