Hubli airport to be upgraded

Hubli: Dr Ramalingam, regional director, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Chennai, has said that the Hubli airport will be upgraded to a full-fledged National airport before 2008.
Addressing a joint press conference after inspecting the airport premises, Dr Ramalingam said the AAI had decided to accelerate the upgradation work of the Hubli airport, which had been at snail’s pace for the last 15 years.
The airport would be made capable of handling the landing of at least three big planes simultaneously. It would also have an extended runway, he added. Revenue and District incharge Minister Jagadish Shettar assured the AAI delegation of allotting about 397 acres of land surrounding the airport, free to upgrade the existing airport.
Responding to Shettar’s assurance, Ramalingam said the proposed upgradation work would be completed within 25 months, after the government allotted land.
