New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to shift its annual parade and flypast to an airbase on the outskirts of the capital to add to the grandeur of the event and to decongest Delhi airport.
'This is a suo motu move, keeping in view public convenience,' an IAF officer said, explaining the decision.
Thus, come Oct 8 and the IAF Day parade will move to the Hindon airbase in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, which is 15 km away as the crow flies from its present venue.
'The shift will enable us conduct a full investiture and display the entire gamut of our capabilities,' the officer said.Hitherto, the parade was conducted in the portion of the Delhi airport under the direct control of the IAF. This high-security area is where Indian and foreign dignitaries arrive and depart from the capital.
