No retiring rooms at Mumbai domestic airport

Mumbai: The 12 retiring rooms in the domestic terminal of Chhatrapati Shivaji airport have disappeared.
They will be replaced by offices for airport’s new management from the private sector. The move has affected precisely 540 people, every month.
The retiring rooms were on the first floor of the terminal 1B. “There were just 12 rooms. The airport gets passenger traffic of five lakh passengers every year, what will they do now?” said a senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) official.
Sources added that the rooms were full at any given point in time. The rooms could be used for a maximum of 12 hours at a time.
However, RJ Treasuryvala, Mumbai Airport Director, said passengers should not feel upset at the absence of restrooms. Treasuryvala, however, offered a suggestion. “Passengers can use the hotels near the airport instead.” When this reporter pointed out that the hotels were expensive, Treasuryvala said, “Passengers who fly can definitely afford the hotels.”
